WATERVILLE, ME (February 28, 2026) -- The No. 2 Tufts University women's lacrosse team got five goals apiece from senior
Allie Zorn and junior
Schuyler Lloyd, starting the 2026 campaign with a 16-11 win over No. 3 Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play from Bill Alfond Field.
Colby (0-1, 0-1 NESCAC) scored first 66 seconds into the game, but the next eight goals would come from the Jumbos as Lloyd capped the run with her third of the day following Zorns hat trick goal to make it 8-1 at the 11:24 mark of the second quarter. Colby scored the next two, but the Jumbos came back with three of the next five goals including the first of the year by juniors
Grace Hammond and
Sophia Claps to help take an 11-5 lead into halftime.
The two teams would play an even second half, but the big first half run ended up being the difference in the important win for the Jumbos. The win marked the highest over a ranked opponent since defeating Colby last May, who was ranked No. 3 also at that time. It was also the highest ranked win on the road for Tufts since defeating Middlebury College Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Both Lloyd and Zorn scored on every shot on goal they had Saturday, both netting their lone free position attempt. Hammdon had two scores, two ground balls and five draw controls, while senior
Kate Deehan returned to the lineup and finished with a goal, a ground ball and two draw wins.
Claps and first-year
Eleanor Helm both had a goal and an assist, while senior
Elsa Schutt tallied a goal and seven draw controls. First-year defender
Sophie Haas had a strong opening game to her career with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and first-year
Marlo Stuart fired three shots while adding a ground ball.
Sophomore
Devon Chipman made eight saves to get her first collegiate win, playing all 60 minutes for the Jumbos in net.
Corinne Kapalka had three goals and an assist to pace the Mules offensively.
Tufts will open its home slate Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in non-conference play, taking on Western Connecticut State University on Bello Field.
