Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Balanced Attack Leads No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Past WestConn Wednesday

MEDFORD, MA (March 4, 2026) -- The No. 2 Tufts University women's lacrosse team got goals from 11 different players Wednesday afternoon, running away from visiting Western Connecticut State University for a 19-2 win in a rescheduled, non-conference contest on Bello Field.

The game was pushed back from Tuesday to Wednesday due to weather in the Northeast, and then pushed back from noon to 2:00 p.m. to allow WestConn to make the game in time. The midweek matinee start allowed the Jumbos to play every healthy player, as many of the yougner Jumbo players played the entirety of the second half.

Tufts took an early lead on a man-up goal from junior attack Schuyler Lloyd, as she netted a feed from first-year Eleanor Helm to make it 1-0 just 79 seconds into the game. Senior Allie Zorn and junior Grace Hammond scored back-to-back unassisted strikes before Madison Preston opened the scoring for the Wolves at the 9:34 mark of the first stanza.

The Jumbos came right back with four more unanswered goals in the first quarter, as back-to-back scores from senior Kate Deehan made it 7-1 going to the second quarter. Hammond picked up the run for Tufts, as she netted two more to start the second while Lloyd and sophomore Neta Leschly also scored with less than two minutes left in the period to make it 11-1 at the halftime break.

The second half saw some collegiate firsts for multiple Jumbo players, as first-year Sonja Keneally scored off of a feed from classmate Aynalie Charron for her first goal as a Jumbo. Sophomore Reese Reckles also scored back-to-back goals, the first of her career, to end the third frame.

First-years Amelia Sousa, Charron and Elsa Blodgett also all scored their first career goals on Wednesday in the fourth quarter, as the Jumbos closed out the strong team victory.

Lloyd finished with four points on three goals and an assist, while sophomore attack Esme Coes tallied three assists to lead the Jumbos. Charron had a three-point afternoon with a goal and two helpers, and Hammond added three goals and two ground balls.

Deehan had two goals, a ground ball, caused turnover and a draw control, while Sousa, Blodgett and Reckles all finished with a pair of goals. Helm recorded a goal, assist and three ground balls. First-year Sophie Haas had two caused turnovers and two ground balls, and Nicola Donlan and Kathryn Wilson each had two ground balls.

Sophomore Ava Olender had six draw controls to lead all players, and Elsa Schutt added three draw controls as well.

Sophmore Devon Chipman started and played the first and third quarters, making six saves to pick up the victory. Junior Sophie Powless also played the second and fourth frames, stopping one shot while not allowing any goals.

Tufts outshot the Wolves 42-14 for the game, holding a 22-16 edge in ground balls as well as a 16-7 draw control edge.

The Jumbos will travel out on the road for New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action Saturday, taking on Amherst College March 7 at 1 p.m. in Amherst, MA.
