Jack Regnery tallied eight points while classmate
Brooks Hauser added seven points to help lead the No. 1 Tufts University men's lacrosse team to a 19-14 home win on Senior Day over No. 8 Wesleyan University in league play from Bello Field Saturday.
The six assists for Regnery were a career-high for the standout senior attack, as he played facilitator in addition to his two goals on the afternoon. Hauser finished with a team-high four goals and three assists, while junior
Chase Beyer posted three goals and an assist as the attack unit tallied 19 total points for the game.
Wesleyan netted the game's first goal on Saturday afternoon, but the Jumbos scored five of the game's next six goals including a pair from junior
Will Emsing to make the score 5-2 with 2:54 left in the first stanza.
The Cardinals pulled to within two at 6-4 at the 11:56 mark of the second quarter after a Thomas Girimonti score, but senior middie
Garrett Kelly scored with 5:45 to go in the half to start a four-goal spurt to end the half with the Jumbos leading 10-4.
Wesleyan came of of the halftime intermission with some juice, scoring four straight goals including three from Matt Morrow to pull to within two at 10-8 at the 7:58 spot of the third quarter. Junior
Jackson Redd helped the Jumbos stop the Wesleyan run with a goal, and Tufts answered the Cardinals spurt with six straight goals including four in a 2:07 stretch going into the fourth to make it 15-8 Jumbos.
Wesleyan outscored Tufts 5-3 in the fourth quarter, but the big third quarter run was plenty to give the Jumbos breathing room in the Senior Day victory.
Emsing had six points for the Jumbos, while sophomore
Davis Owens netted a pair of goals with his long stick while setting up another goal and picking up three loose balls.
Junior
Lucas De la Paz was strong at the face-off "X" with 11 wins in 19 attempts, leading the Jumbos with seven ground balls. Sophomore
William Bonner had five grounders and a caused turnover, while first-year
Jack Donovan finished with a team-high three caused turnovers to go with two ground balls.
First-year
Mason Theis also had two caused turnovers, and senior
Cole Friedlander also forced a pair of Wesleyan giveaways.
Jack Old made nine saves for the Jumbos to earn his 11th win of the season.
Morrow recorded four goals and an assist for the Cardinals (9-3, 5-3 NESCAC), while James Bailey finished with two goals and three helpers. Will Miller, Thomas Girimonti and Kyle Short all had two goals as well for Wesleyan, and Jackson Tinari was 8-for-13 at the "X" Saturday.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon for its final non-conference game of the season, taking on No. 5 Babson College on the road in Babson Park, MA at 4:00 p.m.
