MIDDLETOWN, CT (April 11, 2026) -- Senior middie
Elsa Schutt scored her sixth goal of the season 1:04 into overtime to hand the No. 3 Tufts University women's lacrosse team a thrilling 11-10 win over No. 2 Wesleyan University in action from Smith Field in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play.
The Jumbos (11-2, 6-2 NESCAC) led 10-6 late in the third quarter after a
Schuyler Lloyd goal from
Eleanor Helm, but that would be the final score in regulation for the Jumbos. Wesleyan's Addie Cummings scored three of the next four goals for the Cardinals (10-2, 6-2 NESCAC) including the game-tying goal with 6:36 to go in the fourth quarter.
Tufts had a chance late in the game but a Lloyd attempt with 75 seconds remaining was stopped by Wesleyan goalkeeper Izzy Weintraub.
Once in overtime, Tufts won the opening draw and the next action was Schutt attacking the defense through the middle, and finishing through traffic to give the Jumbos the victory.
Wesleyan led after the first quarter, as the Cardinals netted three of the first four goals of the game before Tufts took the game's momentum. Helm scored unassisted, followed by two
Anna Mollahan goals to put the Jumbos ahead at 4-3 with 7:38 to go in the first half.
Junior
Sophia Claps scored her second of the game at 6:43 of the second frame off of
Allie Zorn's second assist of the game. Zorn set up Helm just before halftime to make it 6-4 Tufts going to intermission.
Tufts kept its run going into the third quarter, netting the first two goals of the second half on tallies from Lloyd and sophomore
Neta Leschly. Zorn and Lloyd tallied for the Jumbos before the rally by the Cardinals in the fourth quarter.
The Jumbos outshot Wesleyan 23-21 for the game, and were successful on all but one of their 18 clears for the game. The Jumbos also recorded a 15-8 edge in draw controls Saturday.
Helm led all Jumbos with five points on two goals and three assists, while Zorn finished with a goal and three assists. Lloyd netted a pair of score to go with her one assist, while Mollahan had two goals, an assist and three ground balls.
Schutt added three caused turnovers and nine draw controls to her game-winning score, while senior defender
Nicola Donlan had two caused turnovers and three grounders. Claps also had three caused turnovers for the Jumbos.
Devon Chipman made seven saves between the pipes for Tufts in the win. Weintraub had eight stops for the Cardinals.
Cummings finished with five goals and two assists for Wesleyan, and Caroline Cervini finished with two goals and one helper. Lindsey Diomede and Molly Simon each had five caused turnovers as well for the Cardinals.
Tufts will host Senior Day Saturday, April 18 at noon against Hamilton College on Bello Field in Medford.
