Tufts Fourth at New England Women's Team Race Through Saturday

MEDFORD, MA (April 11, 2026) – The Tufts University women's sailing team is in fourth place after one day at the New England Team Race Championship. With the champion earning the Legler Trophy, named in honor of the legendary former Tufts coach, the Jumbos are hosting the event out of Bacow Sailing Pavilion on Upper Mystic Lake.

An opening round-robin was held amongst all 10 teams to get the Championship started on Saturday. In their nine races, Tufts won six and lost three. The victories were against Coast Guard, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Rhode Island and Roger Williams. Tufts was defeated by Bowdoin, Brown and Yale.

The Jumbos advanced to a Top 8 round later on Saturday. They had three contests in that round to start, winning against Yale and MIT, and losing to Brown. That put the Jumbos overall mark at 8-4 so far. The other teams in the Top 8 are Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Harvard and Roger Williams.

Brown leads the regatta with a 9-3 record, followed by Yale (9-4), Bowdoin (8-4) and then Tufts. The Jumbos are fourth based on losing a tie-breaker with Bowdoin (number of races won when tied teams met).

On Sunday, if conditions and time allow, the preferred format will be the completion of the round of eight followed by a top six to close out the event. First warning is at 10 AM.

The New England champion will earn an automatic berth into the Intercollegiate Sailing Association National Team Race Championship coming up later this month. Other teams in the region will be eligible to earn at-large berths into the national championship.
