NEW ORLEANS (April 26, 2026) – The Tufts University women's sailing team won five of its nine races on Sunday as the 2026 Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Team Race Championship started on Lake Pontchartrain.
An opening round robin amongst the 15 teams at the national championship regatta began on Sunday. Most teams, including Tufts, finished nine races today. The Jumbos had a 5-4 record, which has them in ninth place after tie-breaking procedures aligned the four teams overall who have 5-4 records.
Tufts' wins today came against Harvard, Tulane, Charleston, Bowdoin and St. Mary's (Md.). The losses were to Stanford, Yale, Brown and Roger Williams.
If time and conditions allow, the opening round robin will be completed on Monday. Tufts still has contests against Dartmouth, Cornell, Georgetown, MIT and Michigan remaining.
The format for the national championship regatta has the top six teams from the opening round robin advancing to a second stage. From there, a round robin of the top four would be conducted. However, with just one day remaining for the competition, race officials could adapt the final format. In either case, the Jumbos will look for more wins on Monday in order to advance.
Tufts' three boats today had senior skipper
Ella Hubbard with sophomore crew Kate Castlerry, first-year skipper
Maddie Janzen with senior crew
Lilly Ladd and sophomore skipper
Sophia Hubbard with junior crew
Eloise Goedkoop.
Monday's racing has a first warning of 10 AM.
