MIDDLETOWN, CT (September 15, 2026) – The No. 2 ranked Tufts University women's soccer team continued to open the new season with dominance as they stormed to a 2-0 NESCAC win over Wesleyan on the road.
 
The Jumbos (3-0-0, 2-0-0 NESCAC) flashed their offensive attack early as Maren Jones delivered a shot on goal just over a minute into the game to test Marley Hansard. Jones stayed hungry and tallied a goal just four minutes later to give Tufts an early 1-0 advantage. Waverly Sumner picked up an assist on the goal, her first dish of the season.
 
Tufts did not play conservatively after taking the lead, adding to their lead seven minutes later in the 11th minute. Emily Nicholas recorded her team-leading third marker of the season, with an assist coming from Jones for her second of the young season.
 
Wesleyan (4-1-0, 1-1-0 NESCAC) turned it on after facing an early two-goal deficit, putting four shots on goal in the span of just over two minutes following the Tufts goal. Gigi Edwards was locked in and shut down every attempt the Cardinals made to cut into the lead. Edwards ended the first half with five saves, while the Jumbos held a three to one advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Cardinals began the second half with an eagerness to attack the Jumbos' end. Three shot attempts came from Wesleyan players, but none of them found the target. Edwards grabbed two more saves in the second half to finish her day with seven total saves and earn her first shutout of the season and 22nd of her career.
 
Jones and Sumner both fired two shots on goal, while Maggie Rogers, Alyssa Ruiz, Phoebe Marsick, and Rachel Arcella saw the full 90 minutes of action. Maggie Di Renzo stopped three shots for the Cardinals in just 45 minutes of play during the second half.
 
The Jumbos are back home on Saturday for a NESCAC matchup with Connecticut College at 12 PM.
