MEDFORD, MA (September 19, 2026) – The No. 2 ranked Tufts University women's soccer team registered a 2-2 draw in conference play against the Camels of Connecticut College in a battle on Bello Field.
 
The Jumbos (3-0-1, 2-0-1 NESCAC) were all over the opponents end in the first half as they put two goals on the board 30 minutes into the contest. The Camels (2-1-1, 1-1-1 NESCAC) cut their deficit in half before the halftime break to give themselves confidence heading into the second. Connecticut knotted the game at two in the 52nd minute to stun the Jumbos and complete the comeback effort. 
 
Waverly Sumner pocketed the first goal of the afternoon to put the Jumbos in front 1-0. Maren Jones lifted a ball over the top of a Connecticut defender to find Sumner cutting towards goal from the left side of the field. Sumner was then fouled in the box by the goalkeeper for the Camels, which led to a penalty attempt, and goal from Sumner for her second of the season.
 
Rachel Arcella buried her first marker of the season and third of her career just over six minutes after the first Jumbo goal to give Tufts a 2-0 advantage. Jones delivered a perfect corner kick feed into the center of the box to find Arcella who pushed it past Maia Kafer, who tried to punch the ball away. Jones earned her team-leading third assist of the season with the dish.
 
Connecticut capitalized on an opportunity in the 41st minute to bring the Jumbo lead down to one. After a throw into the box made its way to Morgan Lovell, Lovell dribbled through a couple of Tufts defenders and passed a low screamer to Virginia Head, who just tapped in by Gigi Edwards.
 
Heading into halftime the Jumbos held an eye-catching 12-3 shot margin lead over the Camels. Tufts also held a small advantage in corner kick opportunities with three compared to the Camel's two.
 
Connecticut evened the score at two nearly eight minutes into the second half. After a Tufts turnover near the midline, Lucy Hurlbut sent a through ball down the right side of the field to lead Danica Zicha towards goal, and Zicha fired a low shot under the outstretched arms of Edwards for her second of the season.
 
Tufts was determined to take the lead again, attempting 17 total shots in the second half alone compared to Connecticut's one. However, Kafer stood strong for the Camels, racking up 10 saves to help her team earn a hard fought draw. The Jumbos finished the contest with 12 shots on goal compared to the Camel's one.
 
The Jumbos are back in action tomorrow afternoon on Bello Field as they will take on Trinity (Conn.) for another NESCAC clash starting at 12 PM.
