MEDFORD, MA (September 21, 2026) -- Senior running back
Christian Shapiro had a monster day in the first game of the 2026 season, earning the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Week 1 honors for Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
Shapiro became the first Tufts running back to score four rushing touchdowns in a single game since 2018, helping the Jumbos post a 42-28 win over Hamilton in the season opener. Shapiro rushed for 110 yards on 27 carries, scoring from 17 yards out along with a pair of 2-yard touchdowns and a 1-yard score. Shapiro has scored in nine straight games for the Jumbos.
The senior from South Salem, NY becomes the first NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week honoree for Tufts since
Hudson Weidman picked up the honor last season on October 27.
The Jumbos head to Wesleyan University for a battle against the defending NESCAC co-champions in Middletown, CT Saturday, September 26 at 1:30 p.m.
