MIDDLEBURY, MA (September 27, 2026) -- Senior
Garv Bahl became the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional singles' champion Sunday, while juniors
Nico Tremblay and
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis picked up the doubles' crown in a huge weekend for the Tufts University men's tennis squad at Middlebury College.
Bahl becomes the second ITA champion in the last three seasons for the Jumbos, as Vuk Vuksanovic was also the New England ITA winner back in 2024. Bahl started the day with a thrilling 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win over Simon Catanzaro of Bowdoin College to move into the finals.
In the finals, he played No. 8 seed Noah Lewis from Middlebury College, playing his best match of the weekend with a 7-5, 6-0 win to take the crown. With the win, Bahl now advances to the prestigious ITA Cup, where he will play for a fall national crown. The ITA Cup will be hosted October 15-18 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.
In doubles' play, Mastrogamvrakis and Trembay knocked off teammates
Pratt Yerger and
Matej Djokic 8-3 in the semifinals to move into the finals. The No. 2 seeded Jumbo crew would knock off the top seed in the tournament, besting Andreas Sillaste and Lukas Frangenberg in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
It's the second year in the last three that the Jumbos have had both the singles' and doubles' champions in the same tournament.
In "B" singles' play, top seed
Jackson Rich defeated Max Lidman of Babson 6-7 (4), 6-3, 1-0 (6) to advance to the finals. Tremblay was also in the singles' draw, defeating Middlebury's Nikky Kondamuri 6-3, 7-5 to make the title match against Rich. In the end though, the Jumbos pair decided not to play the "B" singles title match and share the title.
