WELLESLEY -- The Tufts University women's squash team picked up
its first win of the 2009-10 season with a strong 9-0 final over
Wellesley College on Thursday night.
The Jumbos won eight of the nine matches in straight games.
Sophomore Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) won
the #5 match while allowing just four points, while first year
Jess Rubine (Cranston, RI) was nearly as dominant
in the #4 match where she lost only six points. Tufts also received
big wins from sophomores Alix Michael (Mercer Island,
WA) at #2 and Mercedes Barba (New York,
NY) at #3.
The lone game victories for Wellesley came in the eighth match,
where Tufts senior Sairah Mahmud (Duxbury, MA) won
the first two games before Wellesley's Jess Whitney came back to
tie the match at 2-2. Mahmud secured the win with an 11-7 final in
the fifth game.
Tufts will play Cornell University at Harvard on Saturday.
Wellesley plays at the Wesleyan University Round Robin this weekend
(Dec. 5-6).
