BRUNSWICK, Me. -- The Tufts University golf team opened its
season by scoring sixth out of nine teams at the two-day Bowdoin
College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Brunswick Golf Club.
Junior Dan Moll (Newton,
MA) scored a hole-in-one on the fifth hole Sunday - his
first ever - to highlight Jumbo play.
Junior Luke
Heffernan (Arlington, MA) led Tufts with a two-day
total of 153 to tie for ninth place overall. He shot a 79 on
Saturday and then had a 74 on Sunday to tie for the fourth-best
round of the day. Moll also rebounded after an 85 on Saturday to
shoot 77 on Sunday for a 162 total that tied for 24th overall.
Fifty-three golfers played overall.
Tufts senior Brad
Dreisbach (Philadelphia, PA) scored on both days,
shooting 85 on Saturday and 84 on Sunday for a 169 total (tied for
35th). Senior Cal Shapiro was second-best for
Tufts on Saturday with an 83 and shot 88 on Sunday for a 171 that
tied for 39th. Senior Brett
Hershman (Worcester, MA) shot 79 on Sunday after a
Saturday 90. His 169 tied for 35th.
Husson College won the Bowdoin competition by nine strokes with
a 599 total. Husson's Kevin Byrne was the medalist at 75-71-146 on
the par 72 course. The Tufts total was 646.
The Jumbos play at the Williams College Invitational next
weekend (Sept. 19-20).
