AMHERST -- In its return to action for the 2009-10 season, the
17th ranked Tufts University women's squash team was blanked 9-0 by
both #13 Middlebury and #21 Colby College in round-robin play
hosted by Amherst College on Saturday.
The Panthers won decisively against Tufts, taking eight of the
nine matches in five games. Sophomore Mercedes Barba (New
York, NY) won the second game at #3 to tie the score at
1-1, but lost very competitive fourth and fifth games to drop the
match. Sophomore Alix Michael (Mercer Island, WA)
scored 21 points during her loss in the #2 match.
Likewise, Colby took eight of nine in three games. Michael lost
in five games at #2 after taking a 2-1 lead. First-year
Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) was very close in
each of her games, losing 11-9, 11-7, and 11-8 in the #5 match.
