MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Wesleyan University hosted Tufts
University, the 21st and 25th ranked teams in the College Squash
Association national poll, respectively, for a NESCAC match on
Friday night. The host Cardinals prevailed by a 7-2 score. Tufts
now has a 1-9 record for the 2009-10 season.
The Tufts victories came in the second and third spots.
Sophomore #2 Alix Michael (Mercer Island,
WA) continued her good play with a five-game victory
against Grace Zimmerman. Michael was up 2-0, dropped the next two
games, and then won the decisive fifth 11-4. Sophomore
Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) took the #3 match
for Tufts, breaking a 1-1 tie with long 12-10 and 11-8 wins.
In the #1 match, Tufts junior Valerie Koo (Hong Kong,
China) led 2-0 before losing three straight to Casey
Simchik. All of the other matches were won in three games by the
Cardinals.
The Jumbos play #6 Stanford on Sunday at Harvard.
