Senior quad-captain Lawrence Chan had two
individual wins and two relay wins

MEDFORD -- The Tufts University men's swimming & diving team
won 15 of the 16 events in a tri-meet at Hamilton Pool against
Wheaton College and Bates College on Saturday afternoon. The Jumbos
posted wins against both squads, 245-51 over Wheaton and 235-63
against Bates, to improve their season record to 7-3.
Senior Lawrence Chan (Fresh Meadows, NY) played
a part in four victories. Individually, he won the 50 breaststroke
in 26.98 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 49.23 seconds. He also
swam the second leg of the victorious 200 medley relay (1:36.20)
and was the lead-off man for the first-place 200 freestyle relay
(1:26.94).
Junior Gordy Jenkins (Kansas City, MO) added
solo victories in the 50 freestyle (21.96 seconds) and the 100
breaststroke (1:02.19) to a relay first with the 200 free team.
Sophomore Owen Rood (Branford, CT) was in the
foursomes of the 200 medley and 200 free relays while also winning
the 200 freestyle individually (1:47.72). Sophomore E.J. Testa (Cheshire, CT) also contributed to both relay
victories. Senior Patick Kinsella (Hinsdale, IL)
was on the 200 medley relay team and won the 50 butterfly in 23.76
seconds.
Juniors Joe Lessard (Framingham, MA) and
Chris Vorlicek (Del Mar, CA) won the distance
freestyles for the Jumbos. Lessard completed the 1,000 in a
10:10.45 time and Vorlicek swam the 500 in a 4:58.49 time. Tufts
also split the diving events, with junior Trevor Stack
(Northbrook, IL) scoring 262.85 points to win one-meter
and senior quad-captain Rob Matera (Trumbull, CT)
accumulating 272.45 points for a three-meter victory.
Sophomore Alex Strittmatter (Fairfield, CT) was
the fastest in the 100 butterfly (54.54 seconds). Brian Marko (Barrington, IL) added a freshman win to the Tufts
take, touching in 56.65 seconds for the 100 backstroke. Senior
Kyle Jones (Clemmons, NC) won the final individual
event, the 400 individual medley, in 4:25.08.
Coach Adam Hoyt's Jumbos compete at the Wheaton Invitational
next weekend (Feb. 5-6).
