BERLIN, Conn. - The Tufts University golf team placed
eighth out of 10 schools at the New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) Qualifier over the weekend at Shuttle Meadow
Country Club (par 71). The top four finishers - Middlebury,
Williams, Amherst and Trinity - will compete for the conference
title and an automatic NCAA Tournament berth in the spring.
On Saturday, the four best Tufts scores added up to 321. Their
Sunday scores were similar as the Jumbos finished at 322 for a
two-day total of 643. They were four behind seventh-place Bates
(639).
Freshman Sebastian Vik (Oslo, Norway) scored 79's on both days
for a tournament total of 158 that was 26th individually, best for
the Jumbos. Senior Dan Moll (Newton, MA), whose 77 was the Tufts
best on Sunday, had an 82 on Saturday for a 159 total that tied for
27th. Senior Luke Heffernan (Arlington, MA) led Tufts with a 78 on
Saturday, then added an 82 on Sunday to finish 30th overall at
160.
The Jumbos are back in action next Sunday (Oct. 10) at the
Nichols Invitational.
