Sophomore Ushashi Bau earned three hard-fought wins at #6

WELLESLEY - The Tufts University women's squash team won 6-3 against Wellesley College on Thursday night in a match played at the Dana Hall School. The victory was the second in a row for Coach Belkys Velez's team, which improved to 3-3 overall. Wellesley fell below .500 to 4-5 overall.
The Jumbos dominated the top of the order, winning the first six matches. In the #1 match, junior Alix Michael (Mercer Island, WA) won a rousing five-game final. She won the first two games, including a 17-15 first. After Wellesley's Rosemary O'Connnor rallied to win the third and fourth games, Michael took the match with an 11-6 fifth victory.
In the second through fifth matches, Jumbos had much easier wins. Junior co-captain Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) gave up just 10 points in the #3 match and sophomore Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) had three 11-1 wins in the fourth match. Sophomore #6 Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) won in three, but she had to battle through 11-9, 11-9, 12-10 scores.
Wellesley won the final three matches. At #7, Tufts sophomore Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) won the second game 11-9 to tie the match at 1-1, but Wellesley's Emaline Surgenor closed the match out in four.
The Jumbos return to NESCAC action tomorrow night with a trip to Wesleyan. Wellesley, which has dropped five straight, plays against Middlebury, Connecticut College and Mount Holyoke at Wesleyan on Saturday
