CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team placed fifth at the MIT Invitational including MIT, Harvard, NYU, Wheaton, Bowdoin and Colby over the weekend.
First years Mia Greenwald (Park City, UT) and Sami Bloom (Wilton, CT) had the best individual finsihes for Tufts. In the butterfly events, Greenwald was foruth in both the 100 (1:00.22) and in the 200 (2:14.47). Bloom scored 221.80 in one-meter diving for third place and 245.95 in three-meter for fourth.
Tufts had three other top-five efforts, all in relays. The 400 medley group of first years Jen Konick (Salem, OR), Jenny Hu (Oakland, CA), Greenwald and junior Courtney Adams (Lake Forest, IL) swam a 4:07.78 time. Konick, Hu and Greenwalk were again at the front of the 200 medley relay with classmate Taylor Lentz (Edina, MN) for an all first-year fifth-place 1:52.62 finish.
The Jumbos touched fifth in the 800 freestyle relay later in the meet. Adams joined senior Megan Kono (LaGrange, IL), sophomore Christine Garvey (West Chester, PA) and junior Valerie Eacret (Goleta, CA) for an 8:10.22 time.
Garvey was also seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:52.15).
Coach Nancy Bigelow's team will return to action in a NESCAC tri-meet at Williams with Wesleyan on January 15.
