BELMONT -- The Tufts University women's squash team finished its
2009-10 regular-season with an 8-1 victory over Wellesley College
in a match played at the Belmont Hill School on Thursday night.
Tufts has a 4-13 record heading into the post-season.
All eight of Tufts' victories came in straight games. Sophomore
Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) and first year
Jess Rubine (Cranston, RI) were dominant in their
matches, allowing seven points at #3 and nine points at #4,
respectively. Sophomore #5 Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford,
CT) won her third game 11-1 to finish a match in which she
allowed just 11 points.
The lone win by the Blue came in the #9 match, where Rachel
Amrhein defeated Tufts senior Sairah Mahmud (Duxbury,
MA) in five games.
Coach Doug Eng's Jumbos will play next at the annual Howe Cup
hosted by Yale University February 26-28.
