NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Seeded first in the Epps Cup at the Howe Cup
Team Championships hosted by Yale University this weekend, the
Tufts University women's squash team opened play with a 9-0 victory
against eighth-seed Boston College on Friday morning. The Jumbos
will now face fourth seed Northeastern in the semi-finals on
Saturday at 4:30 pm.
Tufts, ranked 25th nationally by the College Squash Association,
got seven three-game wins in the match against the #32 Eagles.
Sophomore Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) had the
most decisive victory in the third match, surrendering just five
points. First year Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) was
also a clear-cut winner in the sixth match, losing just nine
points.
Senior tri-captain Erin Bruynell (Milton, MA)
came back from down 1-0 to win three straight games in the #7
match.
Winners of two in a row and three out of their last four, Tufts
(5-13) defeated Northeastern 8-1 earlier this season. BC will play
Smith College in a consolation bracket match on Saturday at 4:30
pm.
