HARTFORD, Conn. -- The 16th ranked Colby College women's squash
team won 7-2 against #25 Tufts in the first round of the NESCAC
Championships on Friday night at Trinity College.
Colby, seeded seventh, advances to play #2 seed Williams College
in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 1:30 pm. The #10 seed Jumbos
(2-11) drop into the loser's bracket, where they will play Saturday
consolation matches against Bowdoin at 12:15 pm and against
Connecticut College at 2:30 pm. Those matches will be held at
Wesleyan University.
First-year Jess Rubine (Cranston, RI) had the
best day for Tufts, winning her #4 match impressively 11-3, 11-5,
11-5. The Jumbos also received a top-of-the-order victory from
sophomore Mercedes Barba (New York, NY), who won
the #3 match in three games. First-year Madison Newbound
(Williamstown, MA) took the second game before falling at
#6.
