NORTH DARTMOUTH -- In their first match of the 2010 spring
season, the Tufts University golf team placed 15th at UMass
Dartmouth's Hampton Inn Classic held at Allendale Country Club (par
72). Eighteen teams participated overall.
The Jumbos were 12th following Saturday's action with a combined
348 strokes. Despite playing better on Sunday (344), they dropped
into 15th place. Their 692 total was five points behind 14th place
Rhode Island College (687), and five points in front of 16th place
Johnson & Wales (697). Elms College won the tournament a score
of 626.
Senior Brett Hershman (Worcester, MA) led the
Jumbos on Saturday with an 84. An 83 by senior James Stone
(Weston, MA) in the second score was the low Tufts round.
Stone, Hershman, and junior Luke Heffernan (Arlington,
MA) all shot two-day 173 totals (+29) to tie for 50th
individually. Individual medalist was Nichols College's Pasquale
Pio at 76-72-148.
Coach Bob Sheldon's Jumbos play next at the Western New England
College Invitational on Thursday.
