SUTTON -- The Tufts University golf team finished the spring
portion of its 2009-10 season by placing 14th at the Worcester
State College Invitational held at the par-72 Blackstone National
Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Jumbos finished with a best-four man total of 363 strokes.
They were two ahead of 15th place Springfield (365). Trinity
College from the NESCAC won the tournament with a 298 total. That
was 10 strokes ahead of second-place Salem State (308).
Seniors Brett Hershman (Worcester, MA) and
Jon Trott (Milton, MA) led the Jumbos with 89's on
the 6,655-yard course. Hershman went out in 43, while Trott came in
at 43. A 41 by freshman Mike McCarthy (Winchester,
MA) on the front nine was the best nine-hole total on the
day for Tufts. He finished at 92. A 93 by senior James Stone (Weston, MA), which included a 42 front nine, also
counted towards the Tufts total.
Trinity College's Dave Anderson shot 37-33-70, two under par, to
win individual medalist honors.
