PROVIDENCE -- The Tufts University golf team finished third out
of four teams at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational on
Friday at the Triggs Memorial Golf Course, where the par is 72. The
top four Jumbos finished with a total of 338 strokes. First place,
and host, Rhode Island College scored 326.
Junior Luke Heffernan (Arlington, MA) shot 37
on the back nine to finish at 80 to tie for third individually and
lead the Jumbos. That was the second-best score for nine holes in
the tournament, behind medalist Bob Bruso's back-nine 36. Bruso won
the tournament by two strokes with a 76.
Senior Brett Hershman (Worcester, MA) had an 83
to place second for the Jumbos, including a 39 on the front nine.
Also scoring for Tufts were senior James Stone (Weston,
MA) at 84 and junior Caleb Shapiro (Larchmont,
NY) at 91.
