MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Tufts University golf team tied for 11th
place out of 25 schools at the 27th Annual Duke Nelson Invitational
hosted by Middlebury College at the par 71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course
on Saturday and Sunday.
The best four Tufts rounds on Saturday added up to a 320 score.
The Jumbos played better on Sunday totaling 312 strokes by four
players. The 632 two-day total tied with Saint Lawrence
University.
Tufts shot six rounds under 80 during the weekend, including two
each by Sebastian Vik and Lindsay Walker (Castlegar, BC). Vik,
Walker, and Dan Moll (Newton, MA) all shot 79's on Saturday. Cal
Shapiro (Larchmont, NY) added an 83. On Sunday, Vik's 75 led the
way followed by Walker's 78, a 79 by Shapiro and an 80 by Moll.
Vik's 79-75-154 was 12 over par and tied for 24th individually.
Walker finished tied for 39th with a 79-78-157 (+15). Wesleyan's
Peter Taylor was the individual medalist at 76-70-146.
Rensselaer trailed Manhattanville by one stroke after one day of
play, but shaved six strokes off their score on day two to capture
the tournament. The Red Hawks ended the tourney with a two-day
total of 606, seven strokes ahead of St. Anselm (613).
Manhattanville (615), Hamilton (616) and Skidmore (616) rounded out
the top five schools.
