MIDDLEFIELD, CT - The Tufts golf team scored 308 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 633 and place seventh out of 10 teams at the 2011 NESCAC Qualifier held at the Lyman Orchards Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.
Three Jumbos shot rounds in the 70s on Sunday, when Tufts' 308 total was fifth-best for the day. Sophomore Sebastian Vik (Oslo, Norway) led the way on Sunday with a 74, two over par. Freshman John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) shot a 76 and classmate Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) finished with a 78.
Vik tied for 22nd individually at the tournament with his two-day total of 154. Zorniger, who led Tufts with a 78 on Saturday, tied for 27th with a 156 total. Wawer was also 27th at 80-76-156.
Williams College shot a two-day total of 586 to place first. The Ephs held an eight-stroke lead over second-place Trinity with a first-day score of 290, then shot a 296 on the second day to edge Trinity by two strokes. The Ephs earned the right to host the 2012 NESCAC Golf Championship, most likely at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown. They will be joined by Trinity, Middlebury and Hamilton to compete for the conference title.
Leading Trinity on the links was junior Jack Palley, who carded a two-under par 142 for medalist honors.
Coach Bob Sheldon's Jumbos return to action next Sunday (Oct. 9) at the Bison Invitational hosted by Nicholas College.
