MEDFORD - Sophomore Mia Greenwald (Park City, UT) won the 100 and 200 butterfly events, and was part of a meet-opening victory in the 200 medley relay, as the Tufts women's swimming & diving team opened its home schedule on Sunday with a 172-124 triumph against Keene State at Hamilton Pool.
The Jumbos won nine events overall, with senior co-captain Courtney Adams (Lake Forest, IL) and first-years Kathryn Coniglio (Branchburg, NJ) and Samantha Sliwinski (Weymouth, MA) each winning an individual event along with a relay race. For the second straight day, sophomore diver Sami Bloom (Wilton, CT) won the one-meter and three-meter competitions. She tallied a 203.45 score in one-meter, and 196.90 in three-meter.
Junior K.J. Kroetch (Lafayette, CA), senior Paulina Ziolek (Londonderry, NH), Greenwald and Sliwinski strung together a 1:51.92 time to win the 200 medley relay in the first event. Also early in the meet, Coniglio edged Keene's Caity Shea to take first in the 200 freestyle with a 1:57.74 finish.
After Keene wins by Stephanie Murray in the 100 backstroke (1:01.89) and Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, NH) in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.11), Greenwald won by nearly four seconds in the 200 butterfly at 2:12.88. Adams in the 50 freestyle (25.06) and Sliwinski in the 100 freestyle (54.77) followed with wins for Tufts. In the 100 free, Sliwinski's touch was 0.01 faster than Coniglio's 54.78.
Murray swept the backstrokes for Keene with a 2:13.05 in the 200. Owls first-year Diana Primer (West Haven, CT) then posted the first of her two wins with a 2:26.53 in the 200 breaststroke. Greenwald's 100 butterfly win (59.45) was sandwiched by four Owls wins, including Primer's in the 200 IM (2:12.89).
Tufts was able to finish the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay, as Adams, Sliwinski, first-year Scarlett Hao (Lexington, MA) and Coniglio posted a 1:39.43 time.
Coach Nancy Bigelow's Jumbos are in action next at Wellesley on November 30.
