HANOVER, NH - Junior Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) of the Tufts University women's squash team played at the 2011 College Squash Association Individual Championships hosted by Dartmouth College over the weekend.
Barba was seeded #51 in the Holleran Division, which featured the 33rd through 96th ranked players in the nation. She had a tough first-round match against Dori Rahba, ranked # 26, who plays for Brown University. When Tufts played against Brown early in season, Rahbar played as #2 for the Bears and won in three games. She defeated Barba 11-4, 11-4, 11-0 on Friday.
In the first-round consolation bracket, Barba had a first round bye. In the second round, she played against Rosemary O'Connor, the #1 player at Wellesley College. Barbe played very well and took a game from O'Connor in a close and tough match, losing 3-1. The scores were 11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9.
This was Barba's second appearance in the CSA Individuals draw. She also played in 2009, winning two matches.
