BRUNSWICK, ME - Sophomore Seb Vik (Oslo, Norway) shot a two-round 155 to tie for fourth individually as the Tufts golf team opened its 2011-12 season at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Tufts placed eighth out of 10 as a team.
Vik shot a four-over par 76 on Saturday and followed with a 79 on Sunday at the par 72 Brunswick Golf Club. He led the Jumbos on both days, as the team compiled 347 strokes on Saturday and 336 on Sunday for a 683 final. The tournament included 54 golfers in all.
Sophomore Drew Lewis (Philadelphia, PA) was second for Tufts on Saturday with an 85 and finished with a 169 total. That was tied for 32nd with freshman teammate Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH), whose 82 on Sunday was second-best for the Jumbos.
Husson won the team title at Bowdoin, scoring 616 to win by 14 strokes. Husson's Chris Hamel was the medalist at 71-73 144.
The Jumbos play at the annual Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College next weekend.
