CRANSTON, RI - Freshman Jay Wong (Darien, CT) tied for seventh overall as the Tufts golf team finished sixth at the Johnson & Wales Invitational played at the par-71 Cranston Country Club on Friday and Saturday.
Playing on a course that measures 6,493 yards, Wong shot 80 on Friday and 78 on Saturday for a two-day 158. That led the Jumbos, whose four best scores totaled 339 on Friday and 324 on Saturday for a 663 tournament total. They were three strokes out of fourth place.
Rhode Island College took home the team championship with a 621 (312-309). Sophomore Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) won medalist honors with a 155 (76-79).
Sophomore Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) shot the best Tufts round of the weekend on Saturday with a 77. He paired that with an 84 on Friday for a two-day 161 that tied for 13th individually. Sophomore John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) also scored on both days for Tufts with an 85-83-168 (tied for 21st).
The Jumbos conclude the fall season at the annual New England Championship in Brewster October 28-29.
