Jumbos Edge Wellesley in Women's Squash Match Between Nation's #24 and #25 Teams

Senior Angela Xu won the #9 match to help Tufts secure the win

CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts women's squash team earned its first win of the season with a 5-4 final against Wellesley College on Wednesday at MIT. The Jumbos, ranked #24 in the November 18 Dunlop national poll, improved to 1-1 while #25 Wellesley fell to 1-6.

The Jumbos received wins from their top two players in three games. Senior co-captain Jessica Rubine had a convincing 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 victory in the #1 match. Sophomore Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) was even more dominant, losing just eight games during her #2 victory.

The back-and-forth match saw Wellesley win at the #3, #4, #5, and #7 spots. Along with an competitive Jumbo win by senior Angela Xu (Andover, MA) in the ninth spot, senior Risa Meyers (new York, NY) won three games by 12-10 scores at #6 and sophomore Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, PA) broke a 1-1 tie with 11-9 and 11-5 wins at #8 to help clinch the match for the Jumbos.

The Jumbos next play NESCAC foe Bates, the #13 team in the nation, at Harvard on Friday night at 7 pm. Wellesley plays at the Wesleyan Round Robin on Saturday.
