Junior Kim Goidell led the Continentals with 13 points and eight rebounds. Classmate Eliza Howe chipped in 11 points, and sophomore Dani Feigin handed out four assists.
Hamilton (8-14, 1-8) took a 2-0 lead on a layup by junior Rachel Fredey with 18:58 left in the first half. Tufts responded with an 11-2 run to take the lead for good. Senior co-captain Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, NY) hit a jumper to spark the run, and junior Collier Clegg (Evanston, IL) capped it with a three-pointer with 12:37 to play in the half.
First-year Kelsey Morehead (Foster City, CA) drained a three-pointer with 53 seconds remaining in the half and the Jumbos held a 29-16 advantage at the break. Tufts shot 46.2 percent (12/26) from the floor in the first half.
The Jumbos scored five of the first six points coming out of the locker room and Hamilton didn't get any closer than 14 points the rest of the night. Tufts led by as many as 23 with 5:24 to play. The Continentals shot 25 percent (8/32) from the field in the second half.
Tufts held a 43-31 rebound advantage and tallied six blocks. Hamilton turned the ball over just six times, and the Jumbos committed eight turnovers. The Jumbos, ranked fourth nationally at 45.8 points allowed per game, had their eighth game of the year allowing less than 40 points.
The Continentals have dropped four straight games. It was the first time the two teams have played since the 1999-2000 season, and the Jumbos lead the all-time series 5-1.
Tufts will await its opponent for the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Championship to be played at Cousens Gym next Saturday (Feb. 18) at 2 pm. Hamilton hosts Bates College for a NESCAC game on Sunday (Feb. 12) at noon.
