Jumbo Golfers Open Spring Season With Play at UMass Dartmouth's Hampton Inn Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH - The Tufts golf team opened its 2012 spring season by placing 16th at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by UMass Dartmouth at Allendale Country Club on Friday and Saturday.

On the 6,703-yard, par 72 course, the Jumbos' four best scores totaled 347 on Friday and 356 on Saturday for a 703 total. They finished six in front of Anna Maria College (709) and five behind Worcester State (698). Tufts was tied for 13th after Friday before falling on the second day.

Freshman Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) led the Jumbos over the weekend, tying for seventh individually with a seven-over-par 159. He shot 82 on Friday and 77 on Saturday. Classmate John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) was second for Tufts on both days, shooting an 83-85-168.

Husson won the tournament by two strokes over Salem State with a 629 two-day score. Salem's Chris Berry was the individual medalist at 77-75-152, eight over par.

Tufts plays at the Worcester State Invitational on Tuesday.
