AMHERST - Freshman Jay Wong (Darien, CT) shot two sub-80 rounds as the Tufts golf team played at the 2012 NESCAC Qualifier over the weekend at Hickory Ridge Golf Club (par 72 - 6,704 yards). The Jumbos placed eighth out of 10 teams.
Trinity College carded a two-round score of 592 (304-288) to win and earn the right to host the spring championship from April 27-28. They will be joined by Williams College (307-300-607), Hamilton College (306-305-611) and Middlebury College (314-299-613) as the top-four teams from the Qualifier to move on the to conference championship tournament.
The Jumbos combined for rounds of 331 and 319 for a 650 total. Wong shot 77 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday for a two-day 156 that tied for 19th individually. Freshman Brendan Koh (Singapore) finished with a 77 on Sunday to compile a 163 for the weekend, tying for 33rd. Sophomore John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) scored for Tufts both days with an 85-82-167.
Trinity's Greg Palmer was the top individual with a 76 on Saturday and a one-under 71 on Sunday for a 147 total.
The Jumbos are off for a week before playing in the Johnson & Wales Fall Invitational October 12-13.
