WILLIAMSTOWN - The Tufts women's swimming & diving team defeated Wesleyan, but lost to host Williams in a NESCAC tri-meet on Sunday afternoon. The Jumbos won 160-128 against Wesleyan and fell 198-100 to the Ephs.
The Jumbos did not have any wins on the day, but junior Jenny Hu (Oakland, CA) came very close in the 100 breaststroke. Her second-place time of 1:07.17 was just 0.08 out of first place.
First-year Maddie Golison (Long Beach, CA) also had a runner-up swim for Tufts in the 200 butterfly with a 2:15.64 touch. The Jumbos also had the third-place finisher in that event as first-year Samantha Swinton (Orinda, CA) came to the wall with a 2:17.12 time. Swinton also had a third-place time of 1:01.74 in the 100 butterfly.
Junior diver Sami Bloom (Wilton, CT) scored third-place points in both events. She earned a 245.00 score in one-meter and a 246.50 score in three-meter. The Jumbos also scored thirds from first-year Sarah Mahoney (Excelsior, MN) in the 1,650 freestyle (18:29) and from senior tri-captain Lizz Grainger (Nashville, TN) in the 200 freestyle (1:59.73).
The competition against Wesleyan went down to the final two events with Tufts pulling it out.
Now 2-5 in dual meets for 2012-13, Tufts hosts Wheaton College on Saturday at Hamilton Pool beginning at 1 pm.
