Eric Douglas took first place in the 50 butterfly against Boston College

MEDFORD - Freshmen Michael Winget (Shelburne, VT) and Anthony DeBenedetto (Hopkinton, MA) both won a pair of events, but the Tufts men's swimming & diving team lost 205-146 against Boston College in their first home meet of the 2012-13 season at Hamilton Pool on Tuesday night.
Winget, who was announced as NESCAC Performer of the Week yesterday, continued his success with wins first in the 100 backstroke (53.05) and then in the 50 backstroke (24.62) later in the meet. DeBenedetto was first to the wall in both the 200 butterfly (1:56.63) and the 200 backstroke (1:59.34).
Cam Simko (Summit, NJ) added to the Jumbo freshmen achievement with a victory and a runner-up swim against the Eagles. He topped the field in the 500 freestyle at 4:49.64 after an earlier second-place performance in the 200 freestyle (1:45.97).
The Jumbos won seven of the 19 events overall. Junior Eric Douglas (Southbury, CT) had the fastest time in the 50 butterfly, touching in 24.17 seconds. Classmate Drew Berman (Miami, FL) won the 100 individual medley in 55.06 seconds.
Berman also added a second-place showing in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:15.15 finish. Junior Christian Jones (Lewisville, NC) was behind Simko in the 500 free, clocking 4:52.48 for second place.
Leading Boston College to the win were Daniel Kelly and Nick Henze, who both registered three wins. Henze took individual firsts in the 200 free and 100 free, and was part of the 200 freestyle relay. Kelly won the 50 free individually and was in the winning foursomes of the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
The Jumbos, now 3-4 in dual meets, will host Wheaton College in their final dual meet of the season on Saturday at Hamilton Pool.
