Vik's 76 Leads Tufts to Tie for 16th after One Day at New England Championship

BREWSTER - Junior Sebastian Vik (Greenwich, CT) shot four-over par 76 as the Tufts golf team is tied for 16th place out of 38 teams after one day of play at the 79th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at The Captains Course.

Play continues tomorrow. Tufts' four best scores totaled 318 for 16-over par as a team. The Jumbos are tied with Johnson and Wales for fifth-best among Division III teams following Sunday's action.

Junior Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) also shot under 80 for head coach Bob Sheldon's Jumbos. He finished at five-over par 77 to be in a tie for 33rd individually. Vik is tied for 24th.

Also scoring for the Jumbos was sophomore Jay Wong (Darien, CT) at 80 (+8) and junior John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) with an 85 (+13).

By comparison, Tufts placed 24th in this tournament last fall and 29th in 2011.

Central Connecticut leads after one round with an impressive even-par 288. Monte Mullen from Central leads individually with a two-under 70.
