PROVIDENCE - Junior Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) shot 77 on the par-72 Triggs Memorial Golf Course to lead the Tufts golf team at the Rhode Island College Fall Invitational on Friday. The Jumbos tied for fourth out of eight teams with a 330 score.
Zorniger scored 39 going out and 38 coming in for his 77 which tied for seventh individually. Junior Sebastian Vik (Greenwich, CT) placed second for the Jumbos with a 41-40-81, tied for 14th overall. Third for Tufts and tying for 16th was senior David Carson (Avon Lake, OH), who carded a 39 on the front nine and 43 on the back for an 82. Freshman Ben Rushkin (New York, NY) also scored for Tufts (48-42-90).
Rhode Island College junior Patrick Ford and Johnson & Wales junior Pat Paulson tied for first overall among a field of 40 golfers with individual scores of even-par 72 as Johnson & Wales won the 2013 RIC Fall Invitational.
Ford earned the medalist honor via a tie-breaker (third hole). JWU posted a team score of 301 (+13), besting the hosts by a mere two strokes (303; +15). Wentworth (326; +38) placed third, while Suffolk and Tufts tied for fourth (330; +42).
Tufts will return to Rhode Island to play at the Johnson & Wales Fall Tournament next Friday and Saturday (Oct. 11-12).
