WELLESLEY - Seniors Jenny Hu and Sami Bloom combined for five victories tonight in the Tufts women's swimming & diving team's 179-119 loss at Wellesley College.
Hu continued her fantastic early-season efforts with victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.03), the 200 breaststroke (2:26.27) and the 200 individual medley (2:12.99). She posted winning margins of 2.69 seconds, 5.92 seconds and 2.07 seconds, respectively. She scored 27.5 points for the team, including her part in the third-place 200 medley relay (1:53.07). Hu has won six races in the team's last two meets.
Bloom earned her first sweep of the diving events this season, winning off the one-meter board with a 247.72 score and then taking first in three-meter at 253.95 points. She has now won twice of each board this season.
Junior Samantha Sliwinski scored a pair of runner-up times in the freestyle sprints. She swam 25.31 seconds in the 50 freestyle and then recorded a 54.99 time in the 100. She was a close third in the 200 with a 2:00.40 finish.
In the 1,000 freestyle, Amanda Wachenfeld had started Tufts' strong scoring in the freestyle events by placing second with an 11:12.44 time. She also placed third in the 500 free (5:27.77).
Sophomore Laura Cui supported Hu well in the breaststrokes with third place efforts in the 100 (1:10.92) and 200 (2:33.50).
The Jumbos finished the night with a second-place time of 3:46.41 by Sliwinski, Sophia Lin, Cassidy Hubert and Kathryn Coniglio in the 400 freestyle relay.
Tufts concludes its first semester of competition at the two-day MIT Invitational starting on Friday night and continuing on Saturday.
