CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University Women's Swimming and Diving team took fourth in the eight-team MIT Winter Invitational held Friday and Saturday at MIT's Zesiger Center pool. Tufts racked up 414 points trailing MIT's 1208.5, 676.5 for Harvard, and Wellesley at 657.
The 200 Breaststroke was Tufts' top event with senior Jenny Hu taking the bronze in 2:26.43, and sophomore Laura Cui placing eighth coming home in 2:30.36. Sam Sliwinski was fourth in the 100 Free, the junior touching the wall in 53.64. Sophomore Sarah Mahoney was a fourth place finisher in the 1650 Free finishing the grueling race in 18:23.0.
Tufts took sixth in the 400 Freestyle relay with Sliwinski, junior Keri Gomlembesi, first year Sophia Lin, and junior Laura Schrier reaching the mark in 3:41.14. The Jumbos' "B" squad took ninth. Tufts also placed sixth and seventh in the 200 Free relay. Tufts "A" finished in 1:40.83 with Hu leading off followed by Lin, Sliwinski, and junior Kathryn Coniglio. The Jumbos also had seventh place finishes in both the 200 and 400 Medley ralays.
First year Amanda Gottschalk was a sixth place finisher in the 400 Individual Medley, hitting the wall at 4:48.33.
Two Jumbos had top 10 finishes off the one and three meter diving boards. Senior Sami Bloom was sixth on the one meter and eighth from the taller height. First year Kylie Reiman was eighth of the one meter and tenth from three meters.
The meet concluded the first semester portion of the schedule. Tufts will next take to the water at home against MIT on January 18.
