Jumbo Women's Squash Shuts Out Rochester in First Match at National Team Championships

Ushashi Basu earned the win in the third match for Tufts

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Tufts women's squash team won its opening match of the E Division at the Women's College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship against Rochester on Friday, 9-0.

In the round robin format hosted by Yale, Tufts will next play Cal on Saturday night at 6 pm. The winner of that match will go to the E Division final.

Tufts, seeded as the #33 team in the nation, but first in the E Division, had little trouble with #37 Rochester. The Jumbos won all nine matches in three games.

Senior Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) was especially impressive, winning the #1 match while losing just five points. She took the first game 11-0. Sophomore Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, PA) and first-year Sally Pratt (Groton, MA) both also allowed single-digit points to their opponents in the sixth and seventh matches, respectively.

Senior Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) at #3 and senior co-captain Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) at #5 also posted decisive victories.
