Tufts Women's Swimming & Diving Fourth After One Day at NESCAC Championships

NESCAC 50 breaststroke runner-up Taylor Lentz

BRUNSWICK, ME - Junior Taylor Lentz (Edina, MN) finished as the runner-up in the 50 breaststroke and sophomore Samantha Sliwinski (Weymouth, MA) set a new 50 freestyle record to highlight the Tufts women's swimming & diving team's fourth-place showing on day one at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Bowdoin on Friday.

Lentz won the preliminary round in the 50 breast Friday morning, timing 29.87 seconds. In the final, she was edged by Jamie Hillas from Middlebury 29.82 to 29.90. The Jumbos had four swimmers in the top 13 for the 50 breast, including junior Jenny Hu (Oakland, MA) in fifth with a 30.14 time.

Sliwinski, rounding into form after an illness during the season, swam to a 24.37 tie for eighth place with Williams' Catherine Treeth in the 50 free prelims. Sliwinski then went 23.93 in the swim-off to improve upon her own Tufts record. and earn a berth into the conference final. There she was sixth at 24.26 seconds.

First-place Williams (733.5), Amherst (655.5), and Middlebury (406.5) sit in front of Tufts after nine events. The meet continues tomorrow at Bowdoin beginning with the trials at 10 am.
