NEW HAVEN, CT - With a 9-0 victory over the University of California Berkeley on Saturday, the Tufts women's squash team advanced to the finals of the E Division at the Women's College Squash Association National Team Championships hosted by Yale.
In the round robin format, the Jumbos will face Haverford in the E final on Sunday. Both teams won their respective three-team brackets. Tufts is the #33 seed at the National Team Championships overall and #1 in the E Divison. Haverford is #34 and second in the bracket.
Against #36 Cal, Tufts won seven of the nine matches in three games. Seniors Risa Meyers (New York, NY) and co-captain Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) both allowed just nine points in three-game wins at #4 and #5, respectively. On the other hand, sophomore Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) worked hard to post 11-9, 12-10, and 11-8 wins to take the second match.
Tufts also won two four-game matches. At #9, first-year Denise Amisial (New York, NY) broke a 1-1 tie with 11-3 and 11-5 victories to take the match.
