Women's Squash Loses Close Match in Final of E Division at CSA National Team Championships

Co-captain Hafsa Chaudhry won a very competitive third match for the Jumbos

NEW HAVEN, CT - Haverford College is the 2013 E Division winner at the College Squash Association Women's National Team Championships after the Fords defeated Tufts 6-3 in a competitive, spirited match on Sunday at Yale.

The Jumbos were the #33 seed in the National Team Championships overall, and the top seed in the E Division. Haverford was 34th and second. This is the first E Division title for Haverford.

It was clear that the match would be close from the first round, as two seniors - Haverford's Alex Love and Tufts' Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) - took their #3 match to five games. Basu roared out to a commanding lead in the fifth game, but Love was able to dig out of match ball after match ball. The final game went to extra points, and Basu came through with the win in the end.

The team score stayed close through the first and second rounds, and coming into the final flight the score was 3-3. Seniors Risa Meyers (New York, NY) and co-captain Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) also won the fourth and fifth matches for Tufts, respectively, both in three games.

However, the Fords swept all three matches in the final flight to win the team title. Overall, three matches were decided in five games and two others went four games.

The CSA Individual Championships at Trinity March 1-3 will finish the season for the Jumbos.
