First-year Laura Cui won an event and had two runner-up finishes

NORTON - Junior Sami Bloom (Wilton, CT) finished first in both one- and three-meter diving to lead the Tufts women's swimming & diving team's performance at the non-scoring Wheaton Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Bloom topped a field of 10 divers in the one-meter event with a 448.30 score. In the three-meter competition later in the meet, Bloom was atop an eight-diver field with a 515.20 score.
Teams from Clark, MIT, and host Wheaton competed at the meet.
First-year Laura Cui (Palo Alto, CA) also had a strong weekend for the Jumbos. She won the 100 breaststroke in a 1:10.54 time to go with seconds in the 200 individual medley (2:16.43) and the 200 breaststroke (2:31.01).
Head coach Nancy Bigelow's team won five events overall at the meet. Senior tri-captain Lizz Grainger (Nashville, TN) was first to the wall in the 500 freestyle with a 5:20.52 finish. Junior Katharine Majewski (Grayslake, IL) was fastest in the 200 butterfly field, timing 2:16.36.
Individual runner-up efforts were posted by sophomore Kathryn Coniglio (Branchburg, NJ) in the 500 freestyle (5:22.16), sophomore Samantha Sliwinski (Weymouth, MA) in the 50 freestyle (25.38), senior tri-captain Christine Garvey (West Chester, PA) in the 400 individual medley (4:48.80), junior Emma Van Lieshout (Vernon Hills, IL) in the 100 backstroke (1:00.98), and junior Andrea Coniglio (Paramus, NJ) in the 200 backstroke (2:16.61).
In the relay events, Tufts was second in the 200 freestyle with an order of junior Jenny Hu (Oakland, CA), Sliwinski, Garvey, and Kathryn Coniglio touching in 1:43.62. Coniglio also anchored a foursome with Van Lieshout, junior Ellen Gage (Storrs, CT), and first-year Samantha Swinton (Orinda, CA) that was second at 4:15.33 in the 400 medley relay.
This was the final regular-season meet of the 2012-13 season for Tufts. The Jumbos compete at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Bowdon on Feb. 15-17.
