SPRINGFIELD - Judged as one of the Northeast region's top divers during the 2012-13 season, Tufts junior Sami Bloom (Wilton, CT) competed at the NCAA Zone Diving Qualifier hosted by Springfield on Friday and Saturday.
Using a new procedure to determine the divers who will qualify for Nationals, the NCAA's Zone Diving Qualifer brought together the region's top scorers from the 2012-13 season at Springfield College Friday and Saturday (Mar. 1-2). After missing the first half of the season while studying abroad, Bloom returned and was good enough in the second semester to be among the 27 divers from New England and New York who were in action at the Zone Qualifier.
Bloom finished 19th of both boards, scoring 371.50 in one-meter on Friday and 382.15 in three-meter on Saturday. She did not qualify for the NCAA meet.
Jen Thompson from Springfield won on both boards. Eight divers and two alternates in total qualified for NCAA's out of the Springfield zone.
