Jumbo Golfers Third at Hampton Inn Classic as 2012-13 Season Resumes at UMass Dartmouth

Freshman Brendan Koh's 77 led Tufts

NORTH DARTMOUTH - Freshman Brendan Koh (Singapore) with a 77 was one of three Jumbos to shoot in the 70s as the Tufts golf team resumed its 2012-13 season with a strong performance at the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth at the Allendale Country Club.

The tournament was originally scheduled as a two-day event. However, yesterday's round was rained out and the format was changed to an 18-hole tournament.

Tufts' four best scores totaled 315 to tie for third with NESCAC foe Amherst. Host UMass Dartmouth won the tournament with a 305 total. Nichols was second at 312.

Koh's 77 was five-over par to tie for 13th individually. Also shooting sub-80 rounds were freshman Jay Wong (Darien, CT) and sophomore Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) with seven-over par 79s to tie for 18th. The fourth scorer for Tufts was sophomore John Wawer (Litchfield, CT), who carded an 80 to tie for 24th.

Nichols golfer Colin Whitney won individual medalist honors with a even-par 72. There were 96 golfers in action overall.
