SPRINGFIELD - Sophomore John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) shot four-over par 76 to lead the Tufts golf team at the Western New England Invitational held on Thursday at the Veterans Golf Course. Tufts finished in a tie for seventh out of 11 competing teams.
The Jumbos' four best scores totaled 325 strokes, tying with Nichols for seventh. Endicott College won the tournament with a 309 final score. Austin Teal from Endicott shot two-under par 70 to win individual medalist honors.
Wawer's 76 tied with Colin Whitney from Nichols for fourth place out of 55 players. Freshman Brendan Koh (Singapore) scored second for Tufts with an 81 to tie for 23rd. Classmate Jay Wong (Darien, CT) was one stroke behind at 82. The fourth Tufts contributor was sophomore Alex Zorniger, who shot 86.
