WILLIAMSTOWN - Sophomore Jay Wong (Darien, CT) shot 79-77-156 to lead the Tufts golf team during the two-day Williams Invitational at the par-71 Taconic Golf Club Saturday and Sunday. The Jumbos finished 17th as a team.
Wong, junior Sebastian Vik (Greenwich, CT) at 78, junior John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) with an 85, and junior Alex Zorniger (Dayton, OH) at 86 scored for the Jumbos on Saturday, totaling 328 strokes. That was 17th after one day.
The Jumbos remained in that spot after playing Sunday to a nearly identical 327 strokes. Wong's Sunday 77 was the best round of the weekend for Tufts. Vik shot 81, Wawer 83 and Zorniger scored fourth for the 'Bos at 86.
Wong tied for 28th individually with his 156 total. Vik (159) tied for 43rd, Wawer (168) tied for 80th, and Zorniger (172) finished tied for 88th. The team's two-day score was 655.
Host Williams won the event with a 607 final score. Manhattanville's Eric Michalak was the individual medalist with a +5 72-75-147.
The Jumbos play at the NESCAC Qualifier next weekend (Sep. 28-29).
