John Wawer shot 78 to help put Tufts in the running at the conference Qualifier

BRUNSWICK, ME – The Tufts golf team is within striking distance of finishing among the top four at the 2013 NESCAC Qualifier hosted by Bowdoin College this weekend. After Saturday's action, the Jumbos are sixth.
The team winner following tomorrow's results will host the NESCAC Golf Championship on April 26-27. The top four teams will qualify for the championship.
Sophomore Jay Wong (Darien, CT) led the Jumbos with a 76 on Saturday, tying for eighth place. Junior John Wawer (Litchfield, CT) was second for Tufts and tied for 18th overall with a 78. Junior Sebastian Vik (Greenwich, CT) and sophomore Brendan Koh (Singapore) with 82's also scored for Tufts, who totaled 318 strokes.
Senior Rob Donahoe and junior John Louie fired identical rounds of 70 to sit tied atop the leaderboard and lead Middlebury to first place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Golf Championship Tournament at Brunswick Golf Club today.
The Panthers finished with a team score of 298, which was eight strokes better than Trinity. Defending NESCAC Champion Williams is in third following a team score of 307 and host Bowdoin in fourth after posting a round of 311. The teams will tee off Sunday at 10:50 am for the final round.
Colby first-year Geoffrey Sullivan is in third place at 73, while Trinity sophomore Jeff Durkin and Williams senior Matt McCarron are tied for fourth at 74.
Bates, Hamilton and Wesleyan will get the day started at 9:30 am followed by Amherst, Tufts and Colby at 10:10 am.
